Roan Mountain Engagement Session with Baby in Autumn Wildflowers

Roan Mountain Engagement Session

How lovely is it that Danielle and Jacob got to do their engagement session not only with each other - but with their lovely little girl as well??? These two are getting married this Spring and I am just so excited to catch up with them again! Their pre wedding photos have taken me all over North Carolina. Starting out with this engagement session at Roan Mountain. Then, Danielle's Bridal session in Wilmington. And finally, finishing up with their wedding day at The Little Herb House venue in Raleigh!

An Engagement Session Involving The Whole Family

It's been such a treat to get to know this sweet family during our time working together! They're so easy and go with the flow. And Jacob is full of good jokes to make us all laugh. Photographing this session felt absolutely effortless and just like a hangout. A hangout in an absolutely gorgeous location at that.

Roan Mountain - My Number One Photo Spot in the North Carolina Mountains

When planning their engagement session, I had suggested Roan Mountain State Park to them since it is one of my very favorite places. As a wedding photographer, I photograph here all the time. Whether it's a mountaintop elopement, or Day After wedding photography, or engagement sessions. I just never run out of inspiration here on Roan Mountain.

A State Park Near Boone and App State

The location of Roan Mountain is perfect too. This state park straddles the North Carolina and Tennessee lines, and is located just about an hour outside of Boone. This makes it somewhat popular since it's not too far from Appalachian State University. However, it never feels too crowded. I've also stayed in the town of Roan mountain in both one of the State Park's cabins and a local Bed and Breakfast, and both were really great! Though the town is small, there is even an excellent pizza restaurant/breakfast spot/bakery in town that I recommend often.

A Place with Unpredictable Weather Yet Beauty in All Four Seasons

I've been to Roan Mountain so many times and I've seen it in so many different kinds of weather. I've been up there photographing in snow. Or in summer with the Rhododendrons. Or in fall with the pretty colors. And I've also been up there in rain and fog. The mountaintop often gets shrouded in clouds.

Luckily, for their engagement session, the weather on Roan Mountain was nice and clear! There were some pretty yellow flowers in bloom too. And I definitely made sure to incorporate them into their fall pictures. Since their little one is young we alternated between taking pictures with her and then giving her little breaks to play so that mom and dad could get some photos alone.
