Helpful Tips for Your Engagement Session

For most people, an engagement session is the first time that a person will experience a full on professional portrait session. Sometimes, people get a little bit nervous beforehand, and that is totally normal. My engagement sessions are fun, and exciting, and I like to make people laugh. You will probably forget you are even being photographed after a while. Even so, I have a couple tips here to make sure you have the most fun you possibly can on your engagement session.

1. Have a little something to drink. Just like you might have a mimosa while you get ready on the wedding day, having a drink before your engagement session will help you and your partner relax. The more you relax, the more you will laugh and have fun- and the less you will remember that you are even being photographed- which is the ultimate goal. Its a very handy piece of advice.

2. Let us know if you would like music during your session. Music really helps set the mood for some people and we totally respect that. My phone is full of folk music and classic rock, but you can play your favorite artist through your phone as well.

3. Bring your sense of adventure. Sometimes the most awesome photos are spur of the moment ideas. You have probably seen the pictures of my couples getting under a waterfall, wading through a river, getting in a canoe in their wedding dress, or just making out in their tent. I won’t ever make people do something that they aren’t comfortable with, but if you volunteer to do something adventurous during your session, I will most definitely go along with it. Another tip- if you DO see yourself jumping into a river, running through the mud, or whatever other messy scenarios you might be able to come up with, its always so nice to be able to change into dry, clean clothes afterward. So bring a towel and a spare set. :)
