Featured | Travel Article for Dar Roumana in Fes, Morocco

Last year, I took a winter vacation to Spain and Morocco. While we were there, we photographed some small hotels and inns. One of these was the Dar Roumana in Fes, Morocco. We had a great time photographing this ancient city. The city had no cars- only donkeys- and was full of artisans and craftsman. Fes also contains a walled city called the medina, which is full of open air markets and old family homes that have been handed down for centuries. You can see the incredible attention to detail that these people put into their homes and the Dar Roumana is no exception. The arabic word “dar” refers to a type of home in Morocco. These homes are a bit smaller and usually have a sunny patio in the center. Staying at the Dar Roumana was a beautiful and authentic experience in the heart of the medina. We were enthralled by the colorful tile mosaics covering the center patio, the intricate wood detailing over the doorways, and the luxurious tapestries on the walls. Every day we woke up to a delicious home made breakfast and ate on the rooftop overlooking the city of Fes and the Altas Mountains. It was like living a dream! Here is a link to some more of our travel photos if you are interested in checking out our Morocco pics. :)

Having said all this, I am not surprised at all to see that this wonderful dar has been gaining plenty of international attention! The Dar Roumana was recently featured in an article in the UK’s Prima Magazine and they used a bunch of OUR photos as their illustration!!! I love to travel. It was so inspiring to visit the city of Fes, stay in this wonderful dar, and photograph all of the beautiful things that we were able to experience. ~ Shelley, Morocco Destination Wedding Photographer
