Photographing Your Beautiful Ring

I (Shelley) absolutely love taking pictures of wedding rings! I really enjoy macro photography, so being able to use my macro lens during a wedding is a fun treat. I especially like to place the engagement ring or wedding bands in a flower or hanging from a branch. Macro shots of multiple items can be tricky at times due to the shallow depth of field, but I always experiment with different setups and props to find what works best. I know the ring shot may not be as exciting to look at as the kiss shot or first dance shot in a wedding album, but I don’t think there is a single bride out there who tires of looking at their gorgeous engagement ring. Josh and I have been married for going on 3 years now, and I still smile every time I look down at that sparkly rock on my finger. :) When Josh and I got married, I took my own detail shots and I really love how they turned out. We got married on the beach in Bermuda, so I placed the rings in a seashell to add a nautical vibe. When photographing a wedding, I typically like to start my day off by taking pictures of the rings. I find that it helps get my creative juices flowing while everyone else warms up to the idea of having their pictures taken all day. Plus, its just really fun! Here is one of my most recent photos of an engagement ring set on a succulent in the bride’s bouquet.
